Anime NYC 2025 with Kodansha: Beyond the Booth

America’s cosplay fascination was on full display at Anime NYC. Costumes, avatars, and energy masqueraded at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. This year, Hideoki & Co. designed and built Kodansha’s booth right in the heart of the action.

  • We enjoy being hands-on and, on the floor, stacking books, talking to fans, and welcoming newcomers into the booth. Beyond just setting up a booth, it was about creating a hub.

Fans lined up for one thing: manga. Young Magazine gave away free copies in exchange for votes on which of 19 titles should be serialized. The response was huge. By day two, we realized 4,000 books over four days wouldn’t be enough. When the books ran out before the last day, we took proactive action. We produced a large sign featuring a photo of the once-beautifully stacked books, inviting people to visit the website and vote. Without the books, we encouraged more interaction at the booth. Fans explored original art, and we interviewed them about their favorite manga. We listened to what they think about Japanese manga culture compared to American comics. Fans discovered that in Japan, new manga is released weekly. This fact sparked renewed excitement about the future here in the States. The crowd was diverse, from Gen Alpha to Gen X, from many walks of life, and sharing an appreciation for manga, offering insights that Kodansha can now carry forward.

  • Behind the scenes, we coordinated the printing of large Young Magazine posters and ensured the consistent quality that would serve as the façade of Kinokuniya bookstores across the U.S. This level of logistics and planning meant our work didn’t stop at the convention center; it extended coast to coast.

That’s the value we bring: designing, producing, anticipating, adapting, and connecting our clients with their audience. That’s the work we love.
